I'm Lebanese-American, grew up in Boulder, Colorado and have lived in London, Beirut and Cairo before coming to California. My husband, John, is Egyptian. I have a background in actor-created physical theatre and I taught Rhetoric and Composition for several years at universities. John was a journalist for a decade in the Middle East. At the moment we are dabbling in various types of writing and we run a non-profit organization that teaches creativity programs for children and Syrian refugees in particular. We have three small children.

Getting around
We are next to a bus stop with frequent service to Fairgrounds, Downtown Monterey, Fisherman's Wharf, and the Aquarium (Jazz B - every 30 min), and just a short walk away from bus service to Carmel-by-the-Sea (bus 94 - every 2 hours) and shops (Jazz A - every 30 min).
Unfortunately public transportation in general is not great in this area. It's possible to walk down the hill to some shops and restaurants, but much easier if you have a car. With a car, there is easy access to Carmel, Monterey, Pacific Grove and Salinas.

House Rules
PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING (this is more like terms & conditions)
If anything is unclear or you have questions, please ask BEFORE booking!
Note: The room has one queen-size bed and an optional fold-out single bed (see below).
Babies (under 2) are free if they sleep with their parents, otherwise you need to book for the appropriate number of people. There are no more than 3 people allowed in this room. If your group is bigger than that, please inquire about our other rooms.
- Please respect our check-in (any time after 5pm) and check-out (10am) times. Sometimes we can be flexible, but other times we have a tight schedule - so ask. Unauthorized late check-out will be fined at $100/hour.
- Be prepared to read and follow instructions for self-check-in, where to park, and which door to enter. We are not always home.
-Per city regulations, each booking is permitted ONE car. We will ask you to fill out an online car info form after booking confirmation.
- If you have any problems climbing up stairs, arrange with me ahead of time and we can let you use our private entrance on the side of the house (it is wheelchair accessible).
Guests: All over-night guests must be included on the reservation and any additional day-guests must be pre-approved. Guests are not allowed to exceed agreed-upon occupancy limit. There will be a penalty fee of $100/per person per night for anyone undisclosed (this is more than the extra guest fee paid at booking).
Parking: Cars are to be parked in front of the house on the main street. The neighbors have asked not to have guests parked on the side street. Cars should be parked facing the same direction as traffic, or you risk getting a parking ticket.
Beds: We set up beds according to the number of people booked. If you would like an an additional sofa bed or foldout bed, please let us know rather than trying to set it up yourself. Do not sleep on the sofa without sheets.
Housekeeping: There is no daily housekeeping service. Cleaning fee covers the cost of laundry and routine cleaning. Upon check-out, guests are permitted to leave uneaten food in the refrigerator. This helps make our cleaning process more efficient.
Quiet Hours: are from 9pm-7am. If you come in late, please do so quietly. Our walls are thin and we have other guests, try to keep your voices down after 9pm.
Respect the wooden floors (shoes off, no dragging/scraping luggage), and the wooden furniture (use coasters, don’t drape your damp towels or wet things). We provide hooks in your room where you can hang your towels instead of placing them on the bed or the furniture.
Food is NOT allowed in the rooms. You may eat at the living room table or in the dining room, but please clean up after yourself.
Feel free to hang out, enjoy the view, and socialize in the front living room. There is coffee and tea provided and a small fridge which is shared with other guests.
You may use the kitchen for the microwave, water, and cups. We sometimes permit guests to cook in the kitchen, but if you would like to do so, please ask us.
Check-out time is 10am. Sometimes we can be flexible, but other times we have a tight schedule - so if you’d like to stay longer, ask. Unauthorized late check-out will be fined at $100/hour.

Notes
• The walls in the house are thin, and it is difficult for us to control the noise that other guests make. We do ask that everyone respect our quiet hours of 9pm-7am. If other guests are noisy, shoot me a message and I’ll do my best to address the issue.
• We are just down the street from the fire station—which means that we're all set if we have an emergency—but we also have the pleasure of knowing every time anyone else does.
• We are on a quiet main street next to a school, it doesn't have a lot of traffic, but the sound carries when someone drives by fast or playing thumping music. This room is facing the street, so street noise is especially audible. We do not get much noise from the school at all, but during school drop-off and pick-up times, it can be hard to find parking - otherwise there is plenty of room on the street in front of the house.
