We named our space The Creek House because of the bold creek that flows down the hill from the cabin. The home is located in a holler with views of the mountains in the distance. It is peaceful with sounds of water cascading over the boulders. You might also hear the occasional neighing & mooing of our neighbors on the farm next door! The area offers hiking, fishing, skiing, tubing, gem mining, Zip lining, Utving, dining, antique shopping, wine tastings at local vineyards, etc.

The Property

The house is situated on a nice sized hill with a long path of steps leading from the street parking spot down to the house. There is an expansive deck overlooking the creek and the backyard. We spend almost as much time on the deck reading books or snoozing in the hammock, cooking dinner on the grill, playing games around the tables, and star gazing as we do indoors or at the creek!

Down by the creek is a picnic table as well as the fire pit. The creek always stays cool even in the Summer months. We love splashing in the water and searching for “creek glass”. My husband has caught fish (trout) in the creek.

The property includes a large open backyard with a childrens swing set. In the warmer months of the year, the yard comes alive with hummingbirds and butterflies enjoying the many wildflowers. There is also a gentle stream bordering one side of the cabin and an underground spring on the other side. The soothing sound of the small stream carries into the home. So be sure to open the windows and let in the fresh mountain air and the peaceful sounds whenever the weather allows for it!

The Cabin

The home was built in the 1940s yet it has been updated with modern conveniences. Inside the house are three bedrooms which sleep a total of 7 people. Two of the bedrooms have a queen sized bed and the third bedroom (separated from the first queen room by a curtained doorway) has a bunk bed and a single bed.  Feel free to unpack and store your clothes in the empty dressers as well as in the closet in the second queen bedroom.

Temperatures in the mountains rarely climb high enough to need air conditioning. Therefore, the house does NOT have AC. If the house feels too warm during your stay, feel free to open the windows, turn on the ceiling fans, and/or the window fans. A mountain breeze should do the trick to cool things off! And by bedtime, you might even feel chilly! Should you stay during the colder seasons of the year, the house is equipped with radiant floor heating which feels amazing on cold feet! Additionally, a fire in the wood burning stove makes the cabin extra toasty.

We don’t have a TV in the house but there is efficient WIFI for streaming movies on your own computer or device.  There is a record player so dust off your favorite records and bring them on vacation with you! (currently out of service while cartridge is being fixed), a Sony Bluetooth receiver and speakers for streaming music, board games, books (for children and adults), and a toy box filled with childrens puzzles and various toys.

The spacious kitchen is updated with gorgeous granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances (refrigerator/freezer, stove/oven, dishwasher, microwave, and drip coffee maker) radiant floor heating, and a table and benches that can comfortably seat six with room enough for eight. The kitchen is well stocked with all the tools you will need for cooking meals at the cabin.

The home contains two full bathrooms with a newly refinished clawfoot tub in the brand new second bathroom/laundry room renovation (still a work in progress!).

We understand that families come in many different beautiful forms. Not only are we children friendly but also dog friendly. Please familiarize yourself with the special instructions for traveling with children whether furry or not! And enjoy some of the amenities we have provided with your family in mind.

Regardless of whether you spend your vacation relaxing around the cabin and the property or off adventuring in the surrounding areas, we hope that your family will feel the magic and the love that flows at The Creek House just as our family feels it too.

Meet The Host

Hi! I am Heather, homeschool mama to 4 wild and beautiful children plus one insanely energetic English Shepherd named Etta and wife to my best friend. When I am not (and often while I am!) caring for my family, you can find me hiking in the mountains, doing yoga, listening to music, dancing, loving on my houseplants, finding treasures at thrift stores, and taking photographs of my everyday.

House Rules
1 medium sized (or two small) house trained, well behaved dogs are allowed. Absolutely NO puppies or cats are allowed!! Special instructions for guests with a dog: -Ensure that all of the dog waste is picked up from the yard and disposed of properly. You will need to bring your own bags for this. -Do not allow your dog to poop in or near the stream or creek as dog waste is a major source of waterborne pathogens. -Keep any furniture (both sofas) that your dog might use covered during your entire stay. You will need to bring your own cloths/sheets/blankets, etc. for this. If the sofas get dirt or mud on them because of your dog, you will be charged to have the sofa(s) professionally cleaned. If any of the bedding gets stained by your dog, you will be charged to replace the damaged bedding. -Should you leave your dog unattended at the home for any length of time, please use a crate or other confinement to ensure that no damage is done to the home should the dog feel anxious/bored. Leaving the dog unattended in the cabin is strongly advised against. -Because the home is located in a neighborhood with other dogs, be sure to keep your dog on a leash if he or she is known to run off. -Being in the mountains, there are wild animals such as coyotes. While we have not come face to face with one yet, we have heard them in the distance and a dog that runs off and gets lost might be in danger of coming face to face with one of these wild animals. So use your best judgment as to whether or not your dog will stay by your side in the yard or need to be kept on a leash. -Keep an eye on your dog while in the creek. At times, the flow of the water can be quite quick (especially during or after a rain storm). So, if your dog is not used to this kind of current, you might want to pay extra close attention to him or her. Special instruction for guests with young children: -Children must be supervised at all times by a responsible adult while playing in or near the creek. The larger rocks can be very slippery. And at times, the flow of the water can be quite quick (especially during or after a rain storm). In addition, the water gets icy and frigid during the winter months. -Please note that the house is situated on a hill with a large expansive deck wrapping around half of the home. There are two staircases that lead down to the backyard and creek/stream from the deck. If your child is not safe around stairs, please be mindful of these stairs. -The house is NOT childproofed with outlet covers and cabinet/drawer safety locks. In addition, a high chair is not available. Please plan accordingly. -If traveling with an infant/toddler, feel free to use the safety gate and the pack-n-play (stored under bunk bed) we have provided. You will want to bring your own sheet/blanket for the pack-n-play and ensure that the pack-n-play is kept clean and neatly folded and returned to it's spot under the bottom bunk bed. Please DO NOT create dams, redirect water flow, or move any large rocks in or around the stream or creek - doing so causes flooding, erosion, and damages the ecosystem for the river-dwelling animals. An important rule regarding the trash: We do not have city trash pick up at the house so our cleaning person must go through the trash and gather all the bags by hand in order to haul them to the dump in her car. Out of respect and kindness to her, guests must ensure that any trash or recycles that are put in the outside bins are first placed in bags. No smokingNo parties or eventsCheck-in is anytime after 4:00 PM
