The Filmmakers House is a haven for dreamers to reset, reflect, and create in a desert stay environment. Its 20 mins from Joshua Tree National Park and Pioneertown. Its perfect for couples & creative teams. Although located on a remote four acres, the House is less than a mile from the downtown of Flamingo Heights – one of the hottest up-and-coming areas in the High Desert. You can bask in the tranquility and deck views with a glass of wine OR take a stroll to La Copine (our 4-star, New York Times-reviewed restaurant), Moon Wind Trading (the boho/desert chic clothing store) and Giant Rock Meeting Room (a pizza and wine bar with live music most weekends).

I am a local host. Thanks for not supporting out-of-town investors who are displacing our community. xoxo

BED & BATH
The House is a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom home, each room controlled by its own heating and A/C unit. It can comfortably accommodate 4 people in the 2 queen beds and 1 additional memory-foam sofa pulls out into a full bed in the living room, if needed, for a child or extra friend.

It has one bathroom with a shower/bathtub combo, plenty of drawers, and lots counter space.

KITCHEN & DINING
The kitchen is fully stocked. It has a complete set of pots and pans, baking sheets, bowls, knife set, gas stove, French-door fridge, and even a pasta maker. Because this a main residence and not a second home, coffee is available, along with spices, oil, and baking staples. The water in the house is filtered by reverse osmosis and softened with a Rainsoft water system. The dining table comfortably seats 4 and can be extended for larger meals and two more seats.

Outside on the patio, a Weber 3-burner propane grill and a small table are waiting for al fresco dining.

OFFICE & LIVING SPACES
The House features a 65 4K TV with upgraded sound system and offers premium streaming.

The House is built for remote work or schooling in mind and has 2 desks/workspaces. Theres an office area beside the living room area. The other is workspace doubles as a vanity space with a bench, tucked away for privacy in a bedroom.

The House internet is Starlink – the fastest internet available in the high desert – and at 130+ mpbs its comparable to city speeds.

READING NOOK
Flip through David Lynchs Catching the Big Fish while taking a gander at Trent Harris The Beaver Trilogy. The reading nook has a bookshelf full of creative books – fiction, non-fiction, motivational and inspirational, theoretical film theory and practical film production. Its next to the vintage 50s TV and VCR.

OUTDOOR SPACES
Be sure to enjoy incredible views from the front deck during your stay!

The deck lines the full length of the house and overlooks an expansive view of the desert. (Flamingo Heights is on a hill.) There is an outdoor love seat and chairs, perfect for lounging with a cup of coffee in the morning or a glass of wine at night. Yoga & exercise mats & a body roller are provided so you can stretch out in the morning or after a hike in one of the many surrounding wilderness areas.

The backyard patio area is fenced and private. There is a table for outside dining for 4. The hot tub has unobstructed views of the night sky, as so do the two hammocks (if youd prefer to stay dry).

NEIGHBORHOOD
This is a dirt-road, rural area that is accessible by any vehicle. There are a few grocery markets and a dollar store so in a pinch you dont have to drive the 10 mins into town.

Film and TV director. Love good food, wine, people, and new experiences. I came to the California High Desert on a silent meditation retreat after my first film was released in 2015. I fell in love with quiet and magic and decided to make it my sanctuary away from L.A.

Getting around

Flamingo Heights is mostly maintained dirt roads. Unless you want to get into some hardcore exploring, you are perfectly fine without a 4x4. (I drove a Mini Cooper around for a year when I first moved here.) There is a bus that comes from Landers down the 247 and will take you to Yucca Valley, Joshua Tree and 29 Palms but I would say it's essential to have a car in this area. As far as bikes: Mountain bikes would be ideal. Drive into JTNP for an amazing road bike ride.

House Rules
Short-term Rentals are HIGHLY regulated in this area. Like all other licensed Airbnbs, I am prevented from hosting events or parties and are subject to a $1000 fine for noise violations, barking dogs, trash overflowing in bins, and allowing more guests than we are licensed to host.

Please do not book the house for large gatherings and bachelor/ette parties or bring any more guests than indicated in your reservation.

ALL overnight guests must be disclosed on your reservation even though I do not charge for extra guests.

PETS: Please make sure you indicate a pet is coming on your reservation. One dog only. No cats. Keep animals off furniture. Please bring a dog bed or animal crate. Animals must not be left alone in the house, including service animals. I have a dog there when I do not have guests so if your animal is prone to marking, not trained to stay off furniture, has "accidents," or you plan to spend a lot of time in the Park (where dogs are not allowed), please reconsider whether this is the right rental for you. My rugs cost several hundred dollars to replace. Pet fee helps cover extra cleaning and wear and tear because for some reason many pets are hard on unfamiliar homes. Please don't sneak your pet in the house. It makes everything weird and uncomfortable for us all. To completely discourage it I've added an unauthorized/unapproved pet fee of $500.

Official Support Animals approved only with indication of what task the service animal has been trained to perform. Emotional Support Animals are not charged a pet fee but you must provide your ESA approval from a licensed physician or psychologist.

I provide enough supplies for a week’s stay. If your stay is longer you may need to purchase additional paper towels, toilet paper, cleaning supplies.

The hot tub cleaners may come during your stay to maintain a spa that is sanitary. They don't need to go inside.

I have indicated items here that may affect your booking consideration but all rules are listed in the house manual.

Payment Policy
50% due at booking. Remainder plus security deposit due 7 days before your stay.
Refundable Damage Deposit
Security deposit is released after no damage, excess cleaning or unregistered pets has been determined.

Cancellation before 30 days: 100%
Cancellation 8 to 30 days: 50%
Cancellation 7 days or under: Non-refundable.
Security deposit is always refundable on cancellation.
Notes
I ensure cleaners are paid a living wage and receive 100% of your cleaning fee. Your cleaning fee pays for laundering of towels and bedding, vacuuming, moping, garbage and recycling removal (at checkout), disinfecting the bathroom, wiping down all surfaces, re-stocking supplies and dishes, and hot tub maintenance. This takes two people 2.5 hours at $50/hour. The hot tub is serviced once (sometimes twice) weekly. Servicing is $185/month. They are all independent contractors who bring their own supplies and fuel their own vehicles. This is how the $150/stay is calculated.
