What Should You Bring?

Regardless of season:

• Camera (or Smart Phone with camera capability). You'll be taking sunset photos!
• If you use a Keurig at home, you probably have K-cups at home. Bring some to use during your stay. We also have a regular coffee brewer and we provide the coffee filters.
• If you think you'll need to do a load of laundry, maybe pack a small container holding enough HE detergent for the one or 2 loads you'll run, rather than bringing a huge jug. If a previous guest left their detergent, it will be there for you to use.
• If you're bringing a portable electronic device, don't forget to bring the charging cord with you. And don't forget to take it home with you when you leave!
• Fishing gear, if you plan to fish. You can buy a Vermont Fishing License online. You can get live bait as well as your other fishing needs at Bill's Sports Shop located behind A&B Islands Supermarket in Grand Isle -- just about 2 miles up the road from us. They also sell fishing licenses.
• Flashlight - You may want to bring one. There are outside lights on the house. But if someone loses something by the fire at night, having a flashlight is handy. And in the winter, it can be dark by 3:30pm.
• Sunscreen - Any time of year, the sun may seem innocuous. But then, BAM, you've got sunburn. So bring the sunscreen along! Maybe even bring a wide brimmed hat in the summer! You'll be stylish and comfortable.

Summer visitors:

• Water shoes, old sneakers or sandals you can wear outside and IN THE LAKE. We have sand and stones and shells and sea glass, more of some than others, everywhere! Protect your feet! Nothing spoils your summer like stitches in your foot!
• Beach towels. The provided bath towels are for bath use only.
• Insect repellent. We've been here since the spring of 2011 and I've rarely used bug spray or citronella candles even though we've spent many nights roasting marshmallows by the fire. But if the bugs appear during your visit, better to be prepared.
• If you're bringing your own boat, you don't want to forget any related safety equipment including PFD's (i.e. life jackets) and legal documentation (i.e. boat registration, proof of insurance). I've never been stopped or asked for this documentation, but I occasionally see the Sheriff's boats around....so just be ready.
• Vermont law requires those born after Jan 1, 1974 have a boating safety certification if they are driving any motorized boat. You can take a class online to get the certification from your home state. But you will need the certificate on your possession when motor boating. This means even when using a trolling motor on a canoe! You will be asked to provide this documentation when renting a motor boat.

Winter visitors:

• Winter gear -- boots, gloves, warm coats. Ah, you probably already had these things on your list!
• Winter sports equipment - x-country skis, snow shoes, snowmobile. Like with motor boats, winter sports equipment with motors must be registered and insured and you must have proof on your possession when traveling on the frozen lake. We've had guests that have been stopped by law officials asking for this documentation.
