Important Information About The Internet, Cell Service, And Tech Equipment We Have Onsite

Techy things you may need to know for your stay at Clover's Cottage:

Cellular Service

  • When we bought Clover's Cottage in 2004 at an estate auction, it was necessary to drive a quarter mile up Quaker Drive to the top of the hill to garner a cell signal. Things have improved since then, but this is still a "getaway" of sorts, where we encourage guests to "disconnect" so that you might "reconnect".
  • Today, your bars of cell service can vary, depending on your network. Generally, we like to make sure guests understand that this is not an area with a strong cell signal (you may get a signal on the 2nd floor, but you may need to step out onto the deck or into the front yard.
  • If you prefer more connectivity to the outside world, we suggest you make use of Wi-fi phone calls during your stay, which you will likely find to me more accessible throughout the cottage.

Internet/Wi-fi

  • Fortunately, in 2023, the Hegins area finally received access to high-speed fiber internet! The service is provided by Frontier Communications at speeds of 500 Mbps on average. Data is unlimited.
  • The password is posted on the wall beside the TV (located in the ei66iny 5oom on 6he 2nd floor).
  • Problems with wi-fi? DO NOT attempt to reset the router, as doing so will reset the network name and password to factory settings, making resolution more difficult.
  • The router is located in the middle bedroom. Please do not touch the router.
  • Although the most reliable, fastest, and only unlimited plan in the area, access to the internet is provided by Frontier Communications and cannot be guaranteed. Additionally, service response times cannot be guaranteed;

General Guidelines

  • IMPORTANT - Children may not use any equipment. Parental supervision is required.
  • DO NOT change or move any equipment. DO NOT add any gaming or other equipment.
  • Guests are reminded to bring their own Bluetooth speakers and other technology devices that are important to them during their stay.
  • Guests are reminded to bring their login information for any streaming services they want to enjoy during their stay. Guests that utilize cable or satellite providers at home should bring their login information as well, as these logins will give them access to their content when streaming at Clover's Cottage (e.g. - bring your DirecTV login information so that you can stream ABC, Bravo, or HGTV, for example).

Television Options

  • The TV is located in the sitting room on the 2nd floor.
  • The TV should be operated ONLY with the remotes. Do not touch the TV itself.
  • There is a SOURCE button on the TV remote. This is where guests can toggle between each TV connection (HDMI, etc).
  • The TV connections are as follows:
    • TV - This setting is not in use and will display "snow" and a message "Weak or No Signal". This message is referring to a lack of cable TV connection and not any actual problem with the TV.
    • HDMI1 - This setting is for our exterior security camera. Guests will have no need for this connection.
    • HDMI3 - This is for Roku Express 4k Plus streaming.

  • Guests may use and load any Apps available on Roku Express.
  • Upon first use of Roku on the TV, guests will be prompted to log into "Guest Mode". You will enter your date of departure so that your login information will be automatically cleared on the date of your departure, or manually whenever you want.

  • Guests may use and load any Apps available on the Samsung Smart TV.
  • Guests are reminded that they must manually log out of any apps while streaming on the Samsung Smart TV (you do NOT need to log out of accounts through Roku - it will log you out automatically)
