The Cape May - Lewes Ferry - Escape The Ordinary

Try this little day trip as a new adventure in Cape May

We always recommend a ride on the Cape May - Lewes Ferry when in Cape May. Only about two miles from Dreams Come True Cottage, it is a convenient and very well-run expedition that is anything but ordinary.

Via Car -

You can ride your vehicle right onto the boat and then spend some hours or a day exploring Delaware once you reach your destination. You may make it a ferry round-trip (that is what we recently did), or take make a big circle and travel up the coast of Delaware and back over to New Jersey on land.

Via Bike -

If you want to take a different approach, consider riding your bikes onto the ferry - there is enough within biking distance once you reach the other side of Delaware Bay to enjoy an entire day!

There is history, old architecture, shopping, eating, and many other ways to explore. There is a beautiful state park with amenities, a canal, and beaches for fishing or sunbathing. There are beach towns and plenty to explore all up and down the coast of Delaware.

Via Foot -

The third option is simply to walk onto the ferry and let the boat ride itself be the adventure. On our latest trip we saw whales (both coming and going!) and had some snacks together on the sunny deck. There are bars with adult beverages (I have been told the Bloody Mary is excellent), and quick-to-go food as well (limited services in the off-season).

It is an 85-minute trip, so by the time to go over and back, you will have plenty of time to enjoy this unique travel experience. Bring a board game or some cards, enjoy a book, bring or buy your favorite beverages and snack, snap some photos, and watch the sights go by.

No matter how you visit, this day can make a great romantic and sweet celebration, a terrific family day, or a way to show the area to new friends and visitors. Take your pick - and escape the ordinary!
